How I Feel on Day Five of Keto

Taken from my journal:

It’s the morning of day 5 of my 14-day keto experiment. I’m having coffee with heavy cream – and no sugar – or any sweetener at all. I plan to fast until at least 11 A.M. I’m not sure how long I’ll stick with intermittent fasting, but I want to at least give intermittent fasting a try.

It’s a miracle that I’m only five days in and I’m happily drinking coffee with no sweetener. I used liquid monk fruit drops for the first few days, but honestly I don’t like the aftertaste. Stevia gives me a similar result, so it’s just easier to go without sweeteners at all.

Goodbye Keto Flu!

The keto flu came and went. Good Riddance! Days 2 & 3 were the hardest. I had a headache, brain fog, fatigue, and irritability. Around 3pm-4pm each day was the worst. Even yesterday (day 4) felt difficult around that time.

I used magnesium oil, cell salts, Real Salt in my water, essential oils, and a lot of self-encouragement to get through it.

This morning, for the first time in several days, I haven’t felt disconnected or had a headache. As well, my anxiety vanished. Usually mornings feel the worst for me when it comes to physical anxiety. Of course, I’m not actually worried, stressed, or upset about anything. However, my body just acts as if danger lurks nearby. For example, I get stomach aches, digestive issues, and a general feeling of being needlessly unsettled and on high alert. Inflammation is the worst.

I feel calm and not at all hungry, even after being awake for 3 hours. I’m excited about the day ahead – it’s our first day back to homeschooling after the holidays. Because I feel so good today, I’m eager to dive into my work today – right after we go for a walk when we finish school.

Should I Start Working Out?

Even though working out is not a priority for me until I finish my first two weeks of keto, I’m going to test how I feel by walking a mile or two at a good pace.

Also, I’m considering extending my fast (although, I do have cream in my coffee) until noon. If I continue to feel this good I will. Of course, if I start to feel that low-blood-sugar, headache-y, disconnected feeling, I’ll eat before I walk.

As I’ve said before, these first 14 days are all about seeing what works for me and what doesn’t. I’m testing the uncomfortable things a little at a time.
